Sticky Bean Buns (粘豆包) are among the Manchu snacks made in Hetu Ala Village (赫图阿拉村), Xinbin (新宾), in Fushun (抚顺). Liaoning Daily’s January 2025 article describes Yao Chunzhen (姚春珍) preparing a glutinous-rice wrapper and a filling of red beans sweetened with brown sugar.

How it is made

Yao boils the red beans in an iron pot until they split open, then lifts them into a basin. Brown sugar is sprinkled in as the beans are mashed. The resulting bean paste is wrapped in prepared glutinous-rice dough to form the buns. Yao also explains a closely related local snack: wrapping the buns in washed perilla leaves produces leaf-wrapped bobos.

Where it comes from

In Yongling Town (永陵镇), making these buns is one of the activities that marks the arrival of the twelfth lunar month, alongside buying New Year goods and visiting the market.
