Yonghe Soy Milk Breakfast (永和豆浆) pairs soy milk with shaobing flatbread (燒餅) and youtiao fried dough sticks (油條). Its local history centres on Yonghe (永和), beside Zhongzheng Bridge (中正橋).

From a breakfast cart to named shops

A historical account published by the National Taiwan Arts Education Center (國立臺灣藝術教育館) traces the breakfast business to around 1955. Two retired soldiers from northern China settled in Yonghe and made soy milk, handmade fried dough sticks and flatbreads, selling them from a cart. The combination became a local breakfast favourite. Later, partners established Sihai (四海) shops in Taipei (臺北), while the original Donghai (東海) premises took the name World Soy Milk King (世界豆漿大王).

Soy milk and fried dough

The historical account describes the soy milk as thick and mellow and the fried dough as crisp.
