Tengchong Rice Cake Noodles (腾冲饵丝) begin with rice that is washed, soaked, steamed, pressed, cut and dried. A hot bowl commonly starts the day in Tengchong (腾冲), where Chaoyang Village (朝阳村) supplies many of the city’s breakfast shops.

From rice to strips

In its September 2026 report, CNR (央广网) describes the sequence of rice processing displayed at the village’s ersi cultural centre, where traditional techniques meet modern production lines. Rice grown locally supplies the workshops. Visitors can taste the noodles and enter production spaces to see how the grain becomes ersi.

A village built around ersi

Chaoyang lies three kilometres from Tengchong’s urban area. CNR reports more than six centuries of ersi processing there and credits the village with over 92 percent of Tengchong’s supply. Its noodles reach more than a thousand breakfast shops in the city. Vacuum-packed ready-to-eat products also travel beyond the region through the village’s logistics and online sales network.
