About Gansu Qin Culture Museum

The Xinhua page reproduces a People's Daily Overseas Edition article that opens with the scholarly consensus it reports, that Li County is the birthplace and cradle of the Qin people, and with the prehistoric sites and excavated objects of the Western Han River basin that it says are the material for studying the founding of the Qin empire. In 2004, it records, five bodies including the National Cultural Heritage Administration began a survey and excavation project on early Qin culture, which it describes as a major archaeological project after the Xia and Shang dating projects. Li County built the museum, the page says, after consulting heritage bodies and specialists, to conserve and use the county's early Qin objects and to support systematic research on Qin culture.

The museum stands at Qinren Square on Dongxin South Road in Chengguan town, with a total site area of about 43,864.7 sq m and total floor area of 20,533 sq m, of which the main museum building accounts for 8,350 sq m and contains exhibition halls, meeting rooms, stores and a lecture hall; the page puts the total investment at 36.9 million yuan. It describes the architecture as reflecting the plain and vigorous style of pre-Qin building. In 2011 the museum was named by the Gansu provincial Party committee propaganda department as the province's fifth batch of patriotism education bases.

The China News Service page gives the museum a collection of more than 5,000 objects of various kinds, including nearly 150 listed as first-class national treasures, and describes it in its own words as a comprehensive museum combining collection and conservation, display, research and public education. It records that Li County is a birthplace of the Qin people and of Qin culture, and that the museum presents that history through early Qin material together with objects of other periods.

Neither page gives opening arrangements or ticket information. The Xinhua page gives no collection counts and does not describe the exhibition galleries; the China News Service page gives no site dimensions and describes no individual exhibit.
