The Gansu Daily report, carried by the Gansu Economic Information Network, quotes the head of the Tongwei county tourism centre placing the spring 8 km south-west of the county seat, with water temperature and yield stable through the year, and calling it a rare multi-trace-element high-quality mineral spring known as 陇上神泉 and 西北第一泉.

The same report describes what has been built around it: a 3A-rated scenic area, the hot spring resort, covering 28,000 sq m; a Nante hot spring physiotherapy centre of 3,700 sq m; and the Yuexin hot spring water world, with 1,400 sq m of water area. The name Tongwei Hot Spring therefore covers three separately built facilities rather than a single operation. The report adds that more than 200,000 visits a year are made to the spring.

Science and Technology Daily gives the water's figures, reporting a temperature as high as 113 degrees Celsius, a daily flow of 6,000 tonnes and 32 minerals, with both medical and health value. The same report describes the county people's hospital's 中医+温泉 health model and the province's first county-level traditional Chinese medicine spa centre it built there; the hospital's rehabilitation department head attributes the effect on psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis to fluoride, metasilicic acid and other components of the water, and the report says spa therapy cut patients' recovery period by 30 per cent on average.

On future development, Science and Technology Daily reports that a hot spring tourism development project with total investment of 1.8 billion yuan started in full in 2025, planning five sections including a calligraphy culture leisure area and a hot spring recreation gateway area and aiming to build the north-west's first hot spring health base. The Gansu Daily report describes the same five-part plan as a calligraphy culture leisure area, a hot spring recreation gateway area, a hot spring ecological landscape area, a farming culture experience area and a hot spring health core area.
