About Baiya Grand Canyon

The canyon is a danxia landform with a maximum elevation of 1,200 metres and a total area of 13.66 square kilometres. The Laibin Evening News describes its main gorge as 10 kilometres long, with thirty-seven bends, more than ten waterfalls, seven deep pools and hundreds of side valleys, and its clear spring water as flowing year-round. In the primeval forest along the gorge it records rare wildlife including lizards, macaques, giant salamanders and blue skinks, alongside prized tree species that include tree ferns and two species of chinkapin.

The Guangxi discipline-inspection commission's own account, dated 13 October 2022, describes the canyon as a national AAA-grade scenic area and a Guangxi autonomous-region-level scenic area, popularly called Guangxi's Jiuzhaigou. It records a phase-two construction project approved for construction in April 2021, and a county party inspection tour which it places in early March of its own year of publication, that is March 2022, and which found the work behind schedule and the scenic area's opening affected. The project built a new visitor centre, scenic-area gate, tourist toilets, a car park and gathering plaza, renovated the existing visitor service centre, toilets and scenic-area museum, and converted a shopping centre for poverty-alleviation products; it passed final acceptance and the scenic area reopened to the public in August of the same year.
