About Jiudongtian
The river passes through an underground section with nine openings to the sky, giving the attraction its name. Those openings connect enclosed cave spaces with daylight and views of the surrounding gorge.
The key feature is the alternation between river, rock and open sky. Natural bridges, cave mouths and sinkhole-like forms show different stages of the same karst landscape. Use the current managed visitor route to see that sequence; a geographic description of the underground river does not mean every cave or water passage is open to independent exploration.
What to look for
- Nine sky openings punctuate the linked underground-river section.
- Caves, gorge walls and natural bridges form a connected karst landscape.
