About Bohai Shangjing Longquanfu Site
The Shangjing Longquanfu site in Ning’an preserves archaeological remains of a capital of the Bohai kingdom. It lies near Bohai Town in the upper Mudan River region. The site is an urban archaeological landscape, where walls, foundations and excavated remains provide evidence of a former capital’s organisation.
Archaeological research has examined the relationship between the outer city, inner precincts and palace area. These spatial divisions are central to understanding the site: the footprint of streets and enclosures can explain more than an isolated surviving structure. Excavation reports document how the city’s layout has been reconstructed from physical evidence.
Begin with an official plan before walking the areas currently open. Compare the marked foundations with the plan’s larger outline, and distinguish original remains from modern markers or explanatory reconstructions. The Bohai capital belongs to an early medieval kingdom; it should not be confused with the separate Jin Shangjing site near Harbin’s Acheng district.
