About Tangchi Hot Spring
The spring was already known across the Jianghan region in the Spring and Autumn period. The Yunü Tang spring in the town is counted among China's five major high-temperature, high-quality hot springs; its water emerges at between 72 and 79 degrees Celsius and carries sulphate, carbonate, fluorine, calcium and radon among 48 minerals in total. The hot water is named alongside gypsum and rock salt as one of the three treasures of Yingcheng, a county whose own summary of itself is gypsum capital, salt sea, hot springs and a land of fish and rice. The western part of the county's tourism plan is designated a gypsum, salt and hot spring leisure and wellness zone.
The spring underpins a cluster of designations rather than a single site. Tangchi town is a provincial all-region tourism demonstration area and is among Hubei's first batch of famous tourism towns and villages, while Yingcheng has been named a national hot spring development and utilisation demonstration area, a hot spring hometown of China, and a national demonstration unit for hot spring tourism standardisation. The name Tangchi hot spring therefore covers several separately operated bathing and resort facilities drawing on the same source, not one enclosure.
