About Langshan

Tianyi Lane is known for its confined rock corridor, while the Pepper Peak area and Bajiaozhai provide contrasting shapes and wider views. These sectors are separated by road transfers and may require different ticket combinations. Choose one demanding walk and one lighter viewpoint area, rather than assuming the whole scenic region can be covered as a single short circuit.

According to local tradition, the mountain was named when the legendary emperor Shun (舜) admired its scenery on a southern tour and pronounced it 'a good mountain' (山之良也), giving rise to the character 崀. In 2010, Langshan was inscribed on the World Heritage List together with Danxia Shan in Guangdong, Taining in Fujian, Longhu Shan in Jiangxi, Jianglang Shan in Zhejiang and Chishui in Guizhou, as part of the joint China Danxia (中国丹霞) World Heritage Site.

Langshan is a large area of Danxia landform covering 108 square kilometres, comprising six scenic sectors: Bajiaozhai (八角寨), Pepper Peak (辣椒峰), Tianyi Lane (天一巷), the Fuyi River (夫夷江), Zixia Dong (紫霞峒) and Tiansheng Bridge (天生桥), with a peak elevation of 818 metres. It is designated a national 5A tourist attraction (国家5A级旅游景区), a national geopark and a national scenic area (国家级风景名胜区), and in 2000 was named a National Rock Climbing Training Base by the General Administration of Sport of China.
