About Jingdezhen Ancient Kiln and Folk Cultures Museum
A nearby temple honours Tong Bin, a kiln worker remembered in local ceramic traditions.
The site also contains relocated Ming- and Qing-period residences. Together the kiln, craft beliefs and domestic buildings explain the social world behind porcelain production.
Beside the Zhen kiln stands the Qing-period Fenghuo Xianshi Temple (风火仙师庙), dedicated to Tong Bin (童宾), a kiln foreman during the Wanli era of the Ming dynasty who died while firing a large dragon jar for the imperial kilns and was afterwards venerated as a kiln god.
The Zhen kiln is a rare, well-preserved historic kiln listed as a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level (全国重点文物保护单位), while Fenghuo Xianshi Temple is a Jingdezhen municipal protected cultural site. The relocated Ming and Qing residence clusters were listed as Jiangxi provincial protected cultural sites in 2000, and the Ming cluster was further listed at the national level in 2013. The museum area itself is a national 5A tourist attraction (国家5A级旅游景区), a National Cultural Industry Demonstration Base and a National Intangible Cultural Heritage Productive Protection Demonstration Base.
