About Linhuan Ancient Town
The old enclosure has a square plan, with a moat to the north and the river forming a natural barrier to the south. Streets and houses cluster in the southern part of the town beside the river, while fields occupy much of the lower northern ground inside the walls. Wenchang Palace, in the northeast of the old town, also carries a twentieth-century association: the Huaihai Campaign command stayed there in November 1948.
On South Street beside the river, tea houses remain central to the town’s social identity. Their characteristic bangbang cha is made by steeping tea stems in local spring water. The custom links the springs, the river street and the habit of sitting together over a pot of tea.
