About Chongqing Industrial Museum
The old industrial setting gives context to machines and displays about the city’s manufacturing growth. A large twin-cylinder horizontal steam engine made in Britain in 1905 is a particular focus, showing the scale of machinery used by heavy industry. The museum opened on 28 September 2019 at Yidu Road 999 (义渡路999号) in Dadukou District, as part of the Chongqing Industrial Culture Expo Park (重庆工业文化博览园). It occupies the former site of the Chongqing Iron and Steel Group factory, which relocated to Changshou District in the 2000s for environmental reasons, leaving behind industrial remains that formed the basis for the park. The main exhibition hall covers 8,000 square meters and presents more than a century of industrial history, from Chongqing's opening as a treaty port in 1891 to the present.
