About Maritime Silk Road Museum of Guangdong

The vessel and its surrounding sediment were lifted together, allowing the hull and cargo to be studied as a connected archaeological site. The Crystal Palace viewing corridor gives the ship itself a physical scale, while the permanent exhibition follows its departure, sinking, discovery and recovery. Ceramic cargo and reconstructions of packing arrangements turn maritime trade into something more concrete than a map of sea routes.

What to look for

  • The Crystal Palace corridor provides views towards the recovered Nanhai I hull.
  • Ship-shaped displays and excavated ceramics show how cargo was packed and carried.

Location & getting there

Getting to Maritime Silk Road Museum of Guangdong

Use the museum on Songkang Avenue beside Ten-Li Silver Beach on Hailing Island. Arrange the final journey to the museum’s own entrance; the island and beach cover a much larger area than the museum site.
