About Wujiangzhai Resort

The Guizhou provincial department of culture and tourism places the scenic area in the south-east of Bozhou District where the three towns of Goujiang, Shangji and Xinmin meet, and describes it as planned on the resources of the Wujiang in six blocks: the Chuxinjian ecological resort area, a hot-spring leisure area, a valley camping and adventure area, a high-mountain agriculture experience area, a pastoral leisure area and a quarter where the original villagers live. The department says the plan was framed around an idea it calls symbiosis and laid out as twelve street districts, combining sightseeing, leisure, holiday, health and conference use rather than sightseeing alone. In October 2023 the department confirmed the resort as one of the fourth batch of provincial-level night-time culture and tourism consumption clusters, two months after it applied in August that year.

What a visitor actually walks through is described by Guizhou Daily: flagstone lanes among several hundred stilt houses, formed when local old buildings were systematically repaired, rebuilt and converted into a group of Qianbei vernacular houses. He Mingliang, head of the resort's brand department, told the paper that a Qianbei housing cluster had been protected and built and that a series of folk-custom exhibition halls and traditional craft workshops had been opened with it. Intangible cultural heritage projects were brought into the site, and the sights developed out of local trades include a dye works at Heping, a pottery workshop at Xiaolongyao, a Zunyi flue-cured tobacco workshop, a Wujiang red chilli workshop and a workshop for sun-drying Wujiang aged vinegar.
