About Maolangou Gorge
Maolangou is a forested gorge in Jiayin County, in the northern Lesser Khingan landscape. Waterfalls, dark pools, steep rock forms and mixed woodland are its main features. The valley brings these elements close together, making the relationship between flowing water and the surrounding rock easy to observe.
Maolan Waterfall and Heilong Pool form one of the named focal points. Other features described in the provincial account include Taizi Peak and the stepped cascades of Sanjie Tan. These names help distinguish individual places within the gorge rather than treating every photograph of rock and water as the same viewpoint.
Follow the official valley path and compare a waterfall’s drop with the quieter surface of the pool below it. Look for changes between coniferous and broadleaf woodland along the slopes, then step back at a viewpoint to see how the rock forms rise through the trees. Water volume and forest colour vary, while the gorge’s structure remains the main reason to visit.
