About Hong Kong Museum of History

Ancient finds from Lamma Island and the Lei Cheng Uk tomb sit within a broader account of the city, while a recreated 1930s streetscape includes a tram, tenement setting and Chinese medicine shop.

Later sections show a 1970s resettlement unit, neon-lit commercial scenes and the mechanical flight-information board from Kai Tak Airport. These objects and settings make changes in housing, travel and everyday consumption tangible. Follow the displays while paying attention to their curatorial interpretation; the current exhibition extends beyond the older version that ended in 1997.

What to look for

  • Archaeological finds connect Hong Kong with its ancient settlement history.
  • A reconstructed 1930s street includes tram, tenement and medicine-shop settings.
  • Resettlement housing and the Kai Tak flight board bring later urban life into view.
