About Sharp Island
The rounded boulders called Pineapple Bun Rocks have cracked surfaces formed through weathering, while a sand-and-gravel tombolo links towards Kiu Tau only when sufficiently exposed. Begin around Kiu Tsui Beach and the geotrail rather than assuming the tidal crossing is always usable. Check official tide information and the on-site panel, and never attempt to cross once water covers the link.
What to look for
- Pineapple Bun Rocks show a distinctive network of cracks on rounded coastal boulders.
- The tombolo towards Kiu Tau appears and disappears with the tide.
