About Chaihe Moon Town

Chaihe, also called Moon Town, is a forest settlement in the Greater Khingan landscape of Zhalantun. Its volcanic lakes and wooded surroundings make it a separate base from the main visitor area of Arxan National Forest Park.

The best-known name is Moon Lake, a nearly circular volcanic lake surrounded by forest. The municipal account places it about 40 kilometres from the town, an important distinction when looking at an accommodation listing labelled Moon Town. The settlement, lake and wider landscape should therefore be planned as separate stops. Seasonal colour is part of the appeal: spring growth, summer woodland, autumn leaves and a snow-covered winter setting produce very different views. Choose the landscape and season you actually want to see before deciding how many transfers to include.
