About Shangrao
The municipal museum introduces regional crafts, including inkstones and bronze mirrors. Across the Xin River, Xinjiang Academy groups study buildings and pavilions on Huangjin Hill, where the relationship between scholarship and landscape remains visible. Together they provide a focused city visit; Sanqingshan and the outlying villages belong to separate journeys with their own transfers.
The city's terrain rises from west to east and is dominated by hills, with the Zhanggong Mountains (鄣公山) and the Huangshan foothills in the north, the Wuyi Mountains (武夷山脉) along the southern border with Fujian, and the Huaiyu Mountains (怀玉山脉) in between. Huanggang Mountain (黄岗山), the main peak of the Wuyi range, rises to 2,157.7 metres and is the highest point in mainland East China; Yujing Peak (玉京峰), the main peak of the Huaiyu range, rises to 1,816.9 metres and forms the central area of the Sanqingshan scenic area. To the west lies the Poyang Lake plain, crossed by the Xin River (信江) and the Rao River (饶河), both flowing from east to west into the lake.
Shangrao is a national base for optical and photovoltaic high-technology industry and for advanced manufacturing. Within its jurisdiction, the county-level city of Dexing (德兴市) holds Asia's largest copper mine and is an important national base for the non-ferrous metals industry.
