About Hukou Waterfall Shaanxi Side
The waterfall is shared ground. A Xinhua photo dispatch published by China Daily places the Hukou Waterfall tourist area at the junction of Yichuan County in Shaanxi and Ji County in Shanxi, and reports that the fall had recently been full with a greatly raised flow, because of factors including increased rainfall upstream, showing golden waves beating the bank. The Shaanxi side's own site gives its address as Hukou town, Yichuan County, Yan'an, and names Shaanxi Yellow River Hukou Cultural Tourism Development Co. as the company that operates the tourist area.
The operator describes the fall as a golden waterfall on the main channel and also a moving, latent one. It says the Yellow River runs through the Yichuan stretch of the Qin-Jin gorge, arrives from a riverbed a thousand metres wide, and is funnelled into a slot only twenty or thirty metres across before pouring down at Hukou, making a waterfall group. It adds that the scenery differs with the season and that eight natural sights each have their own character.
What the site says a visit covers is set out as four things – Yellow River culture, human history, landforms and geological wonders – and it describes the area as one where river and loess set each other off and gorge and mountains back one another, with Hukou called one of the most representative sights on the Yellow River.
