The old settlement sits between mountain and sea, with steep changes of level, close-packed buildings and tea houses that invite a slower stop. Jishan Street is the main food-and-shopping spine.
Look beyond the busiest shopfronts at the way narrow connecting lanes fit between buildings and climb the slope. The Dongtiange connecting alley links Jishan Street with the higher Lunding Road area. A tea break with a coastal outlook makes a useful counterpoint to the crowded lanes; it need not be tied to one famous shop.
