About Huangyaguan
The defenses combine a mountain ridge, towers and a water pass, so the visit shows how the wall handled both steep land and drainage through a valley. Much of the visitor section underwent major restoration in the 1980s. The pass compound and the climbing sections offer different levels of effort: begin with the lower defensive layout, then choose an open stretch of steps according to conditions and your ability.
Huangyaguan was first built in the Northern Qi dynasty and extensively refaced in brick during the Ming dynasty. A restoration campaign launched in 1984 took three years and repaired 3,025 metres of wall, 20 towers and platforms, Bagua Pass (八卦关城) and Huangya Water Pass (黄崖水关).
The Huangya Pass lies on a steep, abrupt mountain ridge in the northern part of Jizhou District, Tianjin municipality, approximately 78 miles (126 km) north of urban Tianjin city. It was listed as a site of relics protection in 1986.
