Entry & permits for Tibet (Xizang)
Foreign tourists need Tibet entry approval, commonly called a Tibet Travel Permit, and an organised visit arranged through a specialist travel agency in China. Confirm your approved route before booking transport. Requirements differ for Taiwan residents and for travellers using mainland or Hong Kong/Macao Chinese resident documents; check the document guide before you book.

About Lulang Forest Viewpoint
Conifers form the main texture of the view, with snow-covered peaks, clouds and seasonal rhododendrons changing its appearance. This is a high roadside outlook rather than the village itself, and it is distinct from the Sejila viewpoint aimed towards Namcha Barwa. Combining the mountain outlooks with Lulang town gives a clear progression from the ridges to the inhabited valley below, subject to the day's visibility.
What to look for
- The conifer-covered valley below the mountainside platform.
- The surrounding snow-peak skyline and seasonal rhododendrons, when weather and flowering conditions allow.
The surrounding area
Eastern valleys, lakes and canyon scenery around Basum Tso and the Yarlung Zangbo.
Location & getting there
Getting to Lulang Forest Viewpoint
Approach by road from Bayi towards Lulang across Sejila and use Lulang Forest Viewpoint (鲁朗林海观景台) as the specific stop. The official guide places its platform on the mountainside, reached on foot from nearby parking.
- Do not confuse this forest outlook with the separate Sejila Namcha Barwa viewpoint or with Lulang town farther along the route.
Combine your visit
Suggested order for this visit:
-
Sejila Namcha Barwa viewpoint
Begin with the mountain-facing outlook if the road and visibility permit.
-
Lulang Forest Viewpoint
Shift attention to the forested valley below the ridge.
-
Lulang town鲁朗国际旅游小镇
Continue by road to the valley settlement for a contrasting lower-level setting.
The viewpoints and town are successive road stops, not a continuous footpath. Cloud cover may hide the peaks, and no clear-view or driving-time guarantee is made.
