About Bayangolin Prefecture Museum
The main themes include regional history, Silk Road Loulan and the eastward migration of the Torghuts. Textiles, documents, pottery and other finds give substance to these large historical narratives. The building’s tower-like form draws on beacon and stupa imagery, making the exterior part of the museum’s interpretation.
Established in March 1990, the institution opened to the public in October 2008 as a comprehensive museum. Its collections encompass more than ten categories of objects designated as precious cultural relics at national level. They include objects made from bronze, gold and silver artefacts, jade and other stone pieces, wall paintings and preserved human remains. The institution was classified as a national second-grade museum (国家二级博物馆) in September 2018. A further designation followed in November 2020, when it became a national 4A tourist attraction (国家AAAA级旅游景区).
