About Hami Hui Prince Mansion and Tombs

The municipal government records that the Hami Prince scenic area was once the political and cultural centre of Hami. The local Uygur princes of the Qing dynasty were called the Hami Hui princes, their residence the Hui Prince Mansion and the burial complex of the princes and their families the Hui Prince Tombs; the mansion and the tombs together form the scenic area. The mansion was the palace of the Qing-dynasty Hami Hui princes, and the tombs are a nationally protected key cultural relic unit.

The tombs stand at Aletun village, Huicheng Township, Hami. In Uygur the place is called "Aletunlek", meaning "land of gold", which the Hami municipal government gives as the reason the tombs are known as the "tombs of gold", and it describes them as combining Han, Manchu, Mongol and Uygur architectural styles. What survives includes the Aitigaer mosque, which the Hami municipal government calls the largest indoor mosque in Xinjiang, the domed tomb of the seventh Hui prince Boxier, and the tomb of the ninth Hui prince together with the Taiji tombs, which the Hami municipal government says combine central-plain and local building styles.

The page's own name for the burial site is 回王墓, while the catalogue label says 回王陵, and the record uses the page's term. The claim that the Aitigaer mosque is the largest indoor mosque in Xinjiang is the page's own wording and is reported as such. The address given is Huancheng Road, Yizhou District, Hami. The page gives no ticket or opening information and does not state the present condition of the buildings.
