About Kashgar High Platform Houses
The neighbourhood has undergone restoration and infrastructure work, and reopened visitor areas include pottery, woodwork and copper workshops. The appeal lies in the relationship between the hillside architecture and the crafts still practised here. Stay on public lanes and ask before photographing residents or entering a working courtyard.
What to look for
- Layered earthen houses and over-street buildings give the lanes their distinctive form.
- Pottery and other craft workshops connect the restored neighbourhood with local practice.
The surrounding area
A southwestern urban and cultural chapter with craft streets, food and residential life.
