About Qiaxi Forest Park

The prefecture government places the park on the middle reaches of the Qiaxi river, a tributary of the Xiaojiergalang river, and describes the valley as opening onto the Jiergalang basin and running south-east, 13 km long and 800–1,000 m wide, with its floor between 1,270 m and 1,600 m and an area of about 10 square kilometres. It records that springs and streams run through the area, that raspberries grow widely over the slopes, and that Qiaxi is a well-known forest area. The county government describes it as backed by snow mountains, ringed by hills and full of old trees, and records that local herders call it "Awuliya", meaning "heaven".

The county government records that the scenic area was established in 1988 and was Ili prefecture's first grassland tourist site, and that the sample of the "spruce king" displayed in the National Agricultural Exhibition Hall came from this area. It records that the grassland is one of Gongliu County's important summer pastures, and that the name Qiaxi carries two meanings in Kazakh story, one of them the name of a beautiful Mongol princess. Both pages list the main sights: forest and pine waves, the deer enclosure, the stone gate, and streams and waterfalls are among them.
