About Heshun Town

Its lanes connect hillside courtyard houses with family and community buildings, while laundry pavilions along the water reveal an everyday use of the town’s edge. Heshun Library adds a distinct cultural stop, and the Double Rainbow Bridge provides a transition between the settlement and its watery foreground. Allow time to look at exterior details and street levels; occupied houses are homes, even where the surrounding lanes form a visitor route.

What to look for

  • Hillside courtyard houses show how the settlement adapts to the slope.
  • The library, waterside laundry pavilions and Double Rainbow Bridge give Heshun recognisable communal landmarks.

Background & history

Heshun Town (Chinese: 和顺镇; pinyin: Héshùn Zhèn) is an ancient town in Tengchong City, located four kilometers southwest of the city centre in Yunnan, China. The town's ancient name is Yangwendun (阳温墩; Yángwēndūn) which was changed to Heshun (河顺; Héshùn) and eventually the name it bears today. Heshun is well known for its quadrangle courtyards that have been built into the town's hills.
