About Menghuan Golden Pagoda and Silver Pagoda

The Golden Pagoda stands on Leiyarang Mountain beside Peacock Lake in southeastern Mangshi. Its main body is a bell-shaped tower, with eight small pagodas on each of its second and third tiers and eight vase-shaped pagodas on the fourth tier's outer platform; the gold finial at its top weighs 2.3 tonnes.

The Silver Pagoda, formally named the 'Eighty-four Thousand Pagoda' and also called the 'Ten-thousand Buddha Pagoda', stands on a hill facing the Golden Pagoda, about a kilometre away in a straight line; it is a contemporary structure, built around 2010 and topped out in April 2012, and is an important building of the Dehong branch of the Yunnan Buddhist Academy. Though smaller than the Golden Pagoda, its hill is about 20 metres higher, so the two appear similar in height from a distance. The Silver Pagoda is 66 metres tall and 46 metres in diameter, and was designed to hold 2,012 Buddha images along with relics.
