About Qingzhou Ancient City
Dongmen Street provides a lively commercial approach, while Ouyuan introduces a more intimate garden landscape of rockwork, unusual stones and old osmanthus trees. The garden passed through princely and scholarly ownership, giving its domestic scale a wider historical context. Explore the streets and garden together, recognising that shops and restored public spaces coexist with older structures.
Qingzhou's old city has a history of about 2,200 years. Since the early Western Han dynasty, there have been six successive historic cities in the area: Guangxian City (广县城), Guanggu City (广固城), Dongyang City (东阳城), Nanyang City (南阳城), Dongguan Weizi City (东关圩子城) and a Manchu garrison banner city (满洲驻防旗城). The site is now a tourist area of about 10 square kilometres, becoming a national 5A tourist attraction (国家5A级旅游景区) in 2017. Of this area, 1.4 square kilometres is currently open to visitors, concentrated mainly on the old Nanyang City (古南阳城) site.
