About Maglev Museum
Its subject is the engineering of magnetic levitation and the development of Shanghai’s airport connection.
The exhibition is divided into themes including the birth of maglev, the Shanghai line and the exploration of its technology. Models and components make the distinction between conventional wheel-on-rail travel and magnetic support easier to understand. A museum visit can be paired with observing the public station, while riding the train is a separate transport decision.
The museum developed from the Shanghai Maglev Science and Technology Exhibition Hall (上海磁浮科技展示厅). Following renovation, it officially opened on 16 August 2007, with an area of 1,250 square metres. Interactive projects allow participants to take part in assembling maglev trains.
What to look for
- Models and components explain the engineering behind magnetic levitation.
- The Shanghai-line section connects the technology with the railway above the museum.
The surrounding area
A large district containing major museums and the tower skyline. A hotel near one attraction may still be far from another.
