About Batai Mountain

China News Service's Sichuan channel describes the mountain as rising step by step in eight tiers, which gives it its name; it lies in the eastern part of Batai town and is a national natural heritage protection site and national geopark. Its terrain produces a sea of clouds, sunrise views, Buddha's light, sheer cliffs, escarpments, solitary peaks and stone teeth. Built features on the mountain include a glass-floored walkway, a high-altitude zipline, a grass-skiing slope, jungle adventure courses and a glass bridge; the bridge spans the Sichuan-Chongqing boundary, is 198 metres long and 2.5 metres wide, and stands 186 metres above the valley floor, with a view of Duxiu Peak.

Wanyuan's municipal government reports that in 2018 the Sichuan provincial government approved the master plan for the wider Batai Shan Scenic and Historic Area, a provincial-level scenic area spanning six townships in Wanyuan and covering 120.7 square kilometres, running to 2035. Its listed resource types are karst landform scenery, deep mid-mountain gorge scenery, atmospheric and weather phenomena, varied plant life, history and legend, and Red Army historical sites, and the planned area is developed in four zones — Feilong Gorge, Batai Shan itself, Qipan Shan and Longtan He.
