About Emetang Flower Sea
The scenic area is in Rangkou village, Rangkou township, 73 km from Hongyuan county town, at kilometre marker 374 on Provincial Highway 209. On 18 September 2017 the Sichuan Provincial Tourism Scenic Area Quality Grading Committee approved it, under the name Hongyuan Huahai, as a national AAAA-grade tourist area. A 2017 prefecture government notice puts the area's average elevation above 3,500 metres and its flowering season from early June to early August, when more than 30,000 mu of grassland become a sea of flowers; a 2025 newspaper feature instead gives the elevation as 3,500 to 4,200 metres and the flowering season as early June to mid-July, with tens of thousands of mu of wildflowers blooming against snow peaks, blue sky and green fields. Both figures are reported here as dated snapshots rather than reconciled.
Local Tibetan people call the grassland 'the garden of the sky god', according to the 2025 feature.
