About Huang Jiguang Memorial Hall
The hall is run as a public-service institution under the Zhongjiang County Veterans Affairs Bureau. It occupies 14,000 square metres with more than 2,000 square metres of floor area, and holds 421 catalogued objects, of which eleven are second-grade and eleven third-grade cultural relics.
The county's register entry sets out the parts of the site: a memorial square, a memorial precinct, the 'Kaige baidai' inscription wall, an exhibition area, an office and service area, and a general exhibition area. Its work is described as combining patriotic education, commemoration of the war dead, Party history study, national defence education, science popularisation, cultural exchange and leisure. In 1996 six central bodies, among them the State Education Commission, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the Ministry of Culture and the National Cultural Heritage Administration, jointly named it a national patriotic education base for primary and secondary schools, and in 1997 the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee designated it a national demonstration base for patriotic education.
