About Jinchuan Pear Blossom Valley

The scenic area covers 187 square kilometres and is made up of Genzha Jiarong Tibetan village, Ke'er, Shenxianbao, Jinchuan Old Street and Hexi. The prefecture chronicles office describes it as having the largest-scale pear-blossom display and the largest-scale red-leaf scenery on the snow-region plateau, and calls it a nationally known snow-pear production area; 'Jinchuan snow pear' won the National Agricultural Product Gold Award in 1985. It has a mild climate with abundant sunshine, averaging 616mm of precipitation, 12.8C, 2,129 hours of sunshine and a 184-day frost-free period a year. The same office describes the valley as holding the largest surviving battlefield from two of the Qianlong Emperor's 'Ten Great Campaigns', fought here against Jinchuan more than 200 years ago, and the site of the Gelde Sha Central People's Government, which it describes as the first ethnic-minority revolutionary government established by the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army in Chinese revolutionary history.

At a 2025 provincial press conference, Jinchuan's county party secretary described the county as holding the world's largest scale of primitive-ecology, high-altitude snow-pear growing land, and said its pear industry had upgraded more than 40,000 mu of quality orchards, with an annual output value exceeding 420 million yuan and pear-growers' per-capita income up by more than 1,800 yuan; the county's publicity department head called it the 'Jiangnan of Aba' and described its tourism branding as built around 'spring flower viewing, summer cool escape, autumn leaf viewing, winter sun', reinforcing its 'China's hometown of snow pear' and 'China's beautiful rural scenery' titles. The county government names Shenxianbao as its most famous pear-blossom viewing platform, where visitors can see tens of thousands of mu of blossom, look down over the town below, and photograph the sunset; Shiwai Liyuan itself, Ke'er township, Sha'er township, the Jinjiang village viewing platform and the villages of Daping, Danzhamu and Shangengzi are named as the valley's other prime viewing areas.
