About Wawu Mountain

Yuanyang Pool provides a quiet water-level scene on top, while the Lanxi waterfall area exposes the abrupt cliff edge beneath the plateau. A cableway-assisted summit visit is very different from the strenuous full ascent through the lower gorge. Choose the route before buying transport tickets and keep enough margin for the descent.

Wawu Mountain is also known as Shu Shan (蜀山) or Da Wa Shan (大瓦山). It lies in the southwest of Hongya County (洪雅县), within Wawu Mountain town (瓦屋山镇), Sichuan, and forms a ridge-like tableland that slopes slightly toward its eastern and western sides; the name comes from its overall resemblance to a tiled roof.

Wawu Mountain National Forest Park (瓦屋山国家森林公园) has been established there, and the scenic area became a national 4A tourist attraction (国家4A级旅游景区) in 2019. Within the scenic area is a restricted zone called 'Mihun Dang' (迷魂凼), described as a 'Bermuda on land' that is easy to enter but hard to leave.

What to look for

  • Yuanyang Pool lies within the summit’s wooded plateau landscape.
  • The Lanxi waterfall area reveals the steep edge below the forested tabletop.

Location & getting there

Getting to Wawu Mountain

Arrive at Wawu Mountain Visitor Centre in Hongya County. For the summit, use the operating transfer to Gufoping and the Gufoping cableway; the lower connection can involve the Jinhua Bridge cableway or a scenic bus according to the day’s operation. Confirm both parts and the return cutoff before boarding.

General visit reminders

Allow room for the terrain and weather when choosing your route. Check the operator’s current trail, shuttle and cableway notices where applicable, and confirm the return connection before setting out. A broad landscape pin does not identify every trailhead or access point.
