About Chinese Lantern World
The Zigong municipal government designates the park a national AAAA-rated scenic area and a national-level night-time cultural and tourism consumption cluster, and describes it as the venue for the Zigong International Dinosaur Lantern Festival; the government's own account also credits the local lantern craft with a reputation as "天下第一灯" ("the world's foremost lantern art").
The park opened on the evening of 22 February 2021 with a 550-mu exhibition ground divided into fifteen themed lantern zones, as the venue for the 27th Zigong International Dinosaur Lantern Festival, jointly sponsored by the Zigong municipal people's government and the provincial department of culture and tourism.
It sits within Zigong's Eastern New City, a development area inside Da'an District that has also drawn the Zigong East railway station and a university campus, according to a China News Service report.
By the 32nd edition of the festival, which opened on 23 January, state media reporting carried on the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's website described the underlying Zigong Lantern Festival tradition as a national-level intangible-cultural-heritage representative project.
