About National Taiwan Museum
The National Taiwan Museum stands beside 228 Peace Memorial Park in central Taipei. This guide refers to its main building on Xiangyang Road; the museum also operates other branches with different collections and addresses.
The institution developed from collections established during the Japanese colonial period and opened as a museum in 1908. Its present identity brings together natural history and cultural material, giving visitors a way to connect the island’s environments with its human history.
The main building is itself a major attraction. Classical columns, a domed central hall and stained glass create an interior whose architecture deserves attention alongside the exhibitions. The nearby Natural History Branch occupies a former bank and is a separate museum stop.
What to look for
- The columned facade gives the park-facing building its monumental character.
- The central hall combines a dome, decorated columns and stained-glass light.
- The Natural History Branch provides a complementary visit in a former bank building.
