About Yushan Designated Summit Routes
Yushan's designated mountain routes lead into a high-elevation landscape of forest, exposed rock and distinct summit ridges. The commonly described Main Peak approach begins on the Tatajia side and follows the western ridge towards Paiyun Lodge before the final ascent. This is a planned mountain journey, with the lodge and trail network forming part of its structure.
Named points along the approach include Menglu Pavilion, the white-wood area and the Great Precipice. They provide more than distance markers: together they show changes in vegetation, terrain and the way the route traverses the mountain. Above the lodge, the summit approach becomes more exposed, and the character of the outing changes from a long approach walk to steeper high-mountain terrain.
The Yushan group contains multiple branches and peaks. A Main Peak plan is not permission to add a traverse, another summit or an overnight site at will. Use the national park's route information to understand how the chosen itinerary fits the network, and its permit system to arrange the required access. Tatajia visitor facilities and the Paiyun mountaineering service centre serve different roles; reaching the road-accessible area does not mean a summit ascent is available without preparation.
