About Galden Jampaling Monastery
The monastery’s name refers to Maitreya, and its main assembly hall is surrounded by colleges, chapels and religious residences. A golden roof with the wheel-and-deer emblem crowns the hall; murals and images inside connect the building with local painting and devotional traditions. The hilltop setting and the group of auspicious stupas give an exterior visit considerable interest as well.
What to look for
- The main assembly hall’s golden roof, wheel-and-deer emblem and mural decoration.
- The eight auspicious stupas and the terraced monastic layout above Chamdo.
