About Suosong Village

The Mainling city government's tourism page and the news items it carries describe the village chiefly through what can be seen from it. The tourism page places 索松村 inside the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon and on a cliff several hundred metres high, the river below and Namcha Barwa overhead, and calls the place where the village looks at the gorge its classic viewpoint — the spot, it says, where almost everyone who comes to 索松村 photographs the canyon. A Xinhua photo report of April 2023 places the village on a mountainside on the bank of the Yarlung Zangbo facing Namcha Barwa, with stretches of peach grove, and records the peach blossom in full bloom that Qingming, drawing visitors to watch and photograph it. A 西藏日报 feature of December 2023 opens on the same scene, with the Yarlung Zangbo rushing below the village and the snow-covered Namcha Barwa when you look up.

Both 2023 reports also describe the village's economy. The Xinhua photo report says tourism is an important income source for 索松村's farmers and herders and gives the village 30 family inns; the 西藏日报 feature says 索松村 has just over 30 households, almost every one running a guesthouse, and that the guesthouse sector there has diversified and formed a fairly complete operating system which has given work to many villagers. The municipal tourism page rates the village's inns the best developed among all the villages of the Grand Canyon. The 西藏日报 account records what came before: villagers lived mainly off traditional forest-based livelihoods such as gathering 松茸 and digging 虫草, and the village lay deep in the gorge with no road and no bridge across the Yarlung Zangbo, so that even moving supplies was hard, until a concrete road was built up from the foot of the mountain and a bridge was thrown across the river. A municipal notice of February 2025, reporting the Nyingchi peach-blossom festival's published routes, lists 米林市索松村桃花 as a stop on the third of them.

Two limits belong to this record. The municipal tourism page's description of 索松村 as 中国最美村落, China's most beautiful village, is attributed on that page to netizens, not to any official designation, and the record carries it only in that form. The two government pages also disagree on the village's orientation: the tourism page has 索松村 backed by Namcha Barwa and facing the Yarlung Zangbo, while the Xinhua report carried on the same site has it facing Namcha Barwa, so the record carries no bearing beyond Namcha Barwa being in view. No cited source gives the village's elevation, population or area.
