About Altay-Hemu Highway Open Section
The road begins at Altay City on the southern flank of the Altai and ends at Hemu village in the Kanas scenic area, with a total length of 209 kilometres — 209.45 kilometres in the Ministry of Transport's figure. Together with existing roads including the G217 it forms a tourist loop of Altay City, Hemu village, Burqin County and back to Altay City.
In its trial-traffic period from September 2024 it carried more than 49,000 vehicle movements and drew 160,000 visitors. The Ministry of Transport names Yekaxia and Wuxilike among the route’s key sections and describes the road as having many bends, steep gradients, sections beside water and below cliffs, and high elevation.
