About Five-Colour Beach
The site lies in Yegiztuobie township about twenty-four kilometres north-west of Burqin, on the north bank of the Irtysh. Its landforms are distinctive and the rock colours vary; in the light of the setting sun the colours are mainly red, with green, purple, yellow, white, black and transitional shades, which the page gives as the origin of the name.
The two banks differ markedly between north and south. Opposite the coloured cliffs lies a dense stand of desert poplar reflected in the water, brilliant yellow in autumn. The scenic area is small, about one kilometre deep, and has several boardwalks and viewing platforms, which the page describes walking along.
What to look for
- The coloured rock faces of the north bank, predominantly red in the setting sun with green, purple, yellow, white and black banding
- The stand of desert poplar (胡杨) on the opposite bank, reflected in the Irtysh
- The boardwalks and viewing platforms the page describes within the roughly one-kilometre-deep scenic area
