About First Bend of the Yangtze Viewpoint
From an elevated public viewpoint, the river, cultivated valley floor and enclosing ridges can be read together; a low riverbank stop gives a different impression of the same landscape. Shigu’s Red Army crossing memorial area is a documented place to look across the bend. Weather and vegetation affect the view, so use an established open viewpoint rather than climbing onto private land to recreate an aerial photograph.
What to look for
- The river’s broad change of direction is visible within the mountain valley.
- Fields and the Shigu settlement show the scale of the river bend below the ridges.
