About Linhai East Lake
During the Northern Song period, prefect Qian Xuan had the waters dredged and made into a garden known as Qian Garden, later called Donghu. The lake's close relationship with the old city gives its waterside scenery an urban and historical setting.
Luo Linhai Shrine commemorates the early Tang poet Luo Binwang, who served as an official in Linhai. Bangou Pavilion stands in the lake; its name alludes to a verse about being reluctant to leave a beautiful lake. These small commemorative and poetic landmarks shape the garden’s character.
