About Five Pagoda Temple

Much of the former wooden temple has disappeared, making this compact monumental structure the focus of the site. The grounds also house the Beijing Art Museum of Stone Carvings, extending the visit from one building to the wider craft of carved stone. Study the tower as a whole first, then move closer to its surfaces and the museum’s displays; the combination explains why this is more than simply a collection of five separate towers.

What to look for

  • Diamond-Throne Tower: examine how the five pagodas are arranged above the shared monumental base.
  • Stone-carving museum: compare the tower’s worked surfaces with other carved objects displayed in the grounds.
