About Weiyuan Fort

The surviving fort belongs to the defensive landscape around the entrance to the Pearl River. Its value lies in seeing the military structure in that coastal setting, after encountering the wider history in the nearby Sea Battle Museum.

Walk through the accessible fort areas with the river approach in mind: the position of the defences is part of the story. Other fort remains lie on the neighbouring hills, but they are separate extensions with different access conditions. Keep the main fort and museum as the core visit unless a signed route and sufficient time support a longer outing.

What to look for

  • The surviving coastal fort shows the physical setting of Humen’s nineteenth-century defences.
  • The relationship between the fort and the Pearl River approach explains its defensive role.

Getting to Weiyuan Fort

The fort is reached from Huandao Road in Humen, in the same local visitor area as the Sea Battle Museum. Confirm the fort’s own entrance and admission arrangement on arrival rather than relying on older combined-ticket information.

General visit reminders

Choose the building, exhibition or part of the historic area you most want to see, then leave time to explore its setting. Read the conflict’s background before the outdoor site.
