About Changji Museum
The historical display connects objects with sites such as Beiting and regional rock art, while a second exhibition introduces historical figures associated with Xinjiang. The combined museum opened in 2023. Its current Nan Gongyuan West Road location matters when comparing older guides that still point to the former prefectural museum.
As of May 2023, the museum held 8,299 objects or sets, including more than 140 classified as precious cultural relics. Its holdings include a copper mirror with paired fish, a Torghut silver seal and a stone inscription concerning temple construction. The historical exhibition spans the first and second floors and presents about 700 objects in nine chronological sections. The institution is a national third-grade museum (国家三级博物馆).
The inscription was excavated in 2010 at the remains of Bokedashan Temple (博克达山庙). Surviving sections comprise its carved head and an incomplete body, with twenty-six lines of regular-script text. It records the temple's construction and the erection of the stele in 1890, as well as describing the surrounding landscape. Painted decoration on the rounded stele head shows two dragons facing the sun.
