About Taiping Ancient Town and Four Crossings of Chishui Memorial

During the campaign, the Central Red Army maneuvered through Gulin County for 54 days, and the second and fourth crossings' main ferry points were at Taiping, leaving the town with numerous Red Army sites and relics; walking down through the town today, former sites include a Red Army billet site, a cadre-corps former site and a temporary-hospital former site among its stilt houses, and many house doorframes still carry small wooden plaques marking these traces.

The Sichuan provincial government approved construction of the memorial hall in 1958, which Sichuan Online describes as China's first memorial hall devoted to the Four Crossings campaign; after more than sixty years of continuous collecting, it now displays over 200 items of Red Army-era ordnance, weapons and daily-use objects.

One of the museum's three grade-one cultural relics is a wooden seal reading, in seal script, 'Seal of the 1st Battalion, 17th Regiment, Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army'; the unit was dissolved during the Red Army's reorganization at Zhaxi in Yunnan, and the seal itself was found by two local farmers in a mountain gully in spring 1965, kept by the local district committee, and donated to the museum in 1975.

Beyond the core memorial hall, the town preserves seven other former-site exhibition halls and the Taiping ferry crossing monument, among about 255 Red Army billet sites in total. The town holds six national-level designations, including national key cultural-relics protection unit, national historical and cultural town, and national AAAA-rated scenic area.
